Wall Street Journal highlights Twisted Limb's garden

Green Scene event well-received!

These are a few of the comments written on the evaluations yesterday (Saturday) after our Green Scene event, Greening your Outdoor Space. This first ILG Green Scene was sponsored by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. (KIBI) which hosted the morning program. Six topics were offered in short presentations from 9- noon. They included: Natural Lawn by Jo Ellen Meyers Sharp, editor of Indiana Living Green; Jerome Delbridge, KIBI,  Trees and NeighborWoods as well as  Rain Barrels; Ron Lauster,  Marion Co. Soil and Water Conservation District,  Rain Gardens; Ben Mannies, JF New, Native Plants and Natural Habitast, and yours truly, touting my favorite topic, Chemical-Free gardening as well as Composting. Information and resources from a dozen organizations and companies were also present, talking with attendees and sharing info, including:

Urban farm principles outlined

At TreeHugger.com today, Jayme Heimbuch of San Francisco, covers a talk by Mark Frauenfelder of Make Magazine and his seven principles of urban farming:

  • Grow only useful things
  • Grow what is appropriate for your regional weather conditions.
  • Build your soil.
  • Water deeply but less frequently.
  • Work with nature not against it
  • Be prepared for failure.
  • Pay attention to what’s happing in your garden and keep notes.
