My quick stop in Graceland reminded me how thankful I am my house isn't full of Elvis memorabilia. See cups for details. The highlight of Memphis was finding out Beale street makes some mean biscuits and gravy right around the corner from the Orpheum Theater whose star embedded sidewalk freezes memories of Ray Charles, George Carlin, Tom 'pussy cat' Jones, Duke Ellington, and Harry Houdini. I knew it was live music I needed when I realized the picture of the smiling guy in the blue tank top smoking his pipe above the counter was a present day picture of Jerry Lee Lewis.
The community here is amazing. I spent the morning cleaning a field next to the Butterfinger Comedy Sweet. People's faces light up when they find out I work for Indiana Living Green magazine.
I met a younger guy from Grease Car who converts diesels to veggie oil. We're talking Jettas to garbage trucks and he is only camped four tents ahead of me.
