There is still room for anyone interested in the work/exchange apprenticeship program this season beginning in April or May.

             We are offering a hand-on learning experience on our organic herb farm in Putnam Co. Owner Constance Ferry has been growing vegetable,herb and flower plants and produce for 25 yrs and will share & instruct you in the art and science of organic gardening, herb propagation ,growing herbs and vegetables, composting and more.
        You will be working in the gardens, the shop & at the events and will attend the workshops on medicine making,folklore and history will be incorporated into our work and learning experience.
        In exchange,you will work in the gardens and with the plants for 20 hours each month, April-October. We are flexible and can schedule you hours around school, job, family, your life, but hours are Mandatory. No experience is necessary, just a strong desire to learn about the plants by working with them.
       Constance is a master gardener, an herbalist, a member and speaker for the master gardener’s program, Indiana Organic Gardeners Assoc., Herb Society Of Central Indiana, International Herb Assoc and shares her love and passion with other groups and assoc. around the country. She lives and works on 27 1/2 acres of woods, ravines, pastures and gardens with her daughter.

Position Overview:
Home Chek is a small business in the dynamically growing field of Home Energy Audits, Green Ratings and Consulting. You will work directly with the owner of the business as an all around support person.

Position requires a person who has all around admin experience who understands, and is comfortable working in a small business environment and all that it demands. The candidate must have experience in admin, bookkeeping, customer service, marketing, and report writing. Responsibilities include client intake, customer service, job scheduling, report preparation, data entry, bookkeeping, marketing, and all around support maintaining work flow.

Must be dependable, creative, flexible, be able to take initiative, have excellent organizational, communication and computer skills. Have a high level of proficiency with Word, Excel & PowerPoint. Be willing to learn energy report writing software. Have experience and comfort in working with social networking sites and online conferencing. The position requires an aptitude for math & science – and a willingness to learn energy audit terminology and processes.

After orientation, demonstrated understanding of processes, and work flow is established, there is an opportunity to perform some work at home. Hours are flexible but deadline driven.

Join Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard (MHC) and the Banneker Community Center in the organic Green Thumbs Youth Garden. Help develop garden oriented programming for youth, while learning about organic gardening and helping to tend the vegetable garden.

Duties will include researching and implementing interdisciplinary garden and nutrition programs for the multi-age youth of the Banneker after school program as well as helping to plan, plant, and tend the garden that provides MHC’s pantry with fresh organic produce. Instruction and support will be provided. Applicants must have a general interest in working with youth.
No gardening experience necessary, though it is a plus. This position is unpaid.
