Indiana Pollution Prevention Grant program seeking applicants. PDF Print E-mail
News Brief - Environment
Tuesday, 01 June 2010 14:46

Deadline for pre-applications set for June 11, 2010.

To encourage industry and communities to reduce the use of toxic chemicals, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is accepting pre-applications for its 2010 Indiana Pollution Prevention Grant program until June 11, 2010. Any Indiana manufacturer, school, not-for-profit organization or community may apply for 50 percent matching funds to support projects that meet the definition of pollution prevention.

“Pollution prevention grants will help Indiana organizations implement pollution prevention activities while promoting environmental stewardship,” said IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly. “There are many ways pollution prevention activities can be encouraged. Increasing source reduction, energy efficiency, and water and energy conservation can generate measurable results.”

IDEM received funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) to facilitate the grant program, which is seeking to achieve measurable results in pollution prevention. When evaluated for funding, projects that reduce or replace the use of chemicals specified on U.S. EPA’s Resource Conservation Challenge Priority Chemicals list or the proposed Regional Priority Chemical list will receive additional points toward their overall score. In addition, work on approved projects cannot begin until an agreement is signed by all parties and grant projects must be completed within a twelve month period.

IDEM also provides on-site pollution prevention opportunity assessments for Indiana facilities. The free, confidential assessments can help facilities identify potential pollution prevention projects. Projects identified by an IDEM assessment between June 2009 and June 2010 will receive additional points toward their overall score.
